Our Lario: the western alto-Lario.

The western Alto-lario is the most northern end of the province and it is situated where the 2 main rivers �The Mera and the Adda� flow into the lake.The western Altolario is known as the �Tre Pievi territory�.Dongo,Gravedona and Sorico were villages with great political, religious and social power.The religious buildings preserve clear findings of the Roman age up to the Baroque
age.
In S.Maria Rezzonico, it is possibile to visit an ancient fortified fence of the �5th -�6th century which was a barrier, a check-point on the lake and on the land�s traffic.
In Gera Lario, there are many traces of mosaics belonged to a �roman domus�.
In Gravedona, we find one of the most unique buildings of the romanic Lombard period, � S.Maria del Tiglio�, but also on the shores of �Lake Mezzola �, you can admire the
interesting �S.Fedelino�s oratory� of the year one.
The renaissance language is as much as ever present, infact we can admire some frescoes in good repair like �S.Maria delle Grazie�in Gravedona,�S.Vincenzo� in Gera Lario, �S.Martino� in Montemezzo , �S.Miro� in Sorico , �S.Giacomo� in Livo and the wonderful �S.Eusebio� in Peglio where you can seee the beautiful frescoes of the famous painter called � FIAMMENGHINO�.
The western Altolario is really an interesting place, infact this zone is called the �Little Tuscany of Como area�.
