The Places
First of all. Lets talk about the lake !
The lake of Como has a particular shape, a kind of an overturned y with 3 arms, one towards the north and the others towards Como and Lecco. It is the third largest of the Italian lakes about the surface and it is the first deepest with its 410Mt between Argegno and Nesso. It is fed by several streams ,but the two main rivers are the Adda from Valtellina Valley which reaching Lecco forms two little lakes (Garlate and Olginate)
before joining the Po river; and the Mera which, coming from Chiavenna Valley after having formed the Mezzola lakeflows into Lake Como.
The Lario (the historical name of our lake) is surrounded by mountains. The highest peak is theLegnone, above the town of Colico, with its 2610 Mt.
Another important group of mountains is the Grigne in the Lecco area and the Resegone with its 1875 Mt.
During the quaternary era , the lake of Como was formed by a large glacier.
The climate is normally mild even in winter thanks to the lake. There are two main winds: the Breva that blows from the south during the afternoon and the Tivano that blows from the north during the
evening.
