The end of World War II on Lake Como

2 May 2016admin
Did you know Lake Como is the place where WWII came to an end in Italy?
During the spring of 1945, on the western shore of our lake Fascism leader Mussolini and his ministers were captured and executed by local Partisans. You can discover the history of that time through the visit at the End of WWII Museum in Dongo: here it’s possible to know the personal stories of local people during the war, together with the big Story which changed Italy and the world. The tour includes an excursion to the green Albano Valley, where small villages overlooking the lake were witnesses of the birth and rise of the Resistance movement in the area.
Possibility of lunch in a typical restaurant.
In the afternoon, the tour goes on to reach Mezzegra. Here you’ll walk in history, to see the gate where Mussolini and his mistress were shot, meanwhile taking a nice walk on the old cobblestone streets that offer magnificent views of the lake.

MEETING POINT and IDEAL TIMING: Dongo, main square. Starting at about 9.30 am, the tour ends in Mezzegra at about 4.30 pm.
