The area of Upper Lake Como is too often neglected by tourists… but it actually is full of history, art, tradition and breath-taking landscapes.
You’ll spend the morning in Gravedona, the most interesting town of the area, where it’s possible to visit one of the most ancient churches of Lake Como: St. Maria del Tiglio (St. Mary of the Linden), built on the site of a previous pagan temple. The town offers a beautiful lakeside walk with views.
The excursion will go on in the valleys behind the coast, where there are old villages with rich churches, and where you’ll admire ancient stone houses, you’ll know local traditions, food and products, always with a magnificent lake view. Here you can discover unexpected works of art, such as Renaissance frescoes or Baroque churches, hiding among very small villages immersed into chestnut forests, where years – and centuries - don’t seem to have passed. A magic atmosphere that will always be remembered.
MEETING POINT and IDEAL TIMING: Gravedona, Santa Maria del Tiglio square, Starting at about 9.30 am, the tour ends in the same place at about 4.00 pm.
