Western and Eastern shores of Lake Como

Varenna, Corenno Plinio, Gravedona, Menaggio

Guided bus tour of the two shores of the Northern part of Lake Como from Varenna to Menaggio.

Meeting with the guide at Varenna, on the eastern shore of Lake Como. This village on the mountain side, underneath the remains of the Castle of Vezio, is one of the most panoramic places of the lake. The visit of Varenna will take you to the Romanesque parish church and, through the narrow roads of the village, to the enchanting harbor and the romantic promenade along the lake.
Then the bus will continue its tour northwards with a brief stop in the village of Corenno Plinio to admire the remains of the castle, the parish church dedicated to St. Thomas of Canterbury and the tombs of the Andreani family.
In alternative, we can organize a visit of the Cistercian Abbey of Piona; next to the simple church of S. Nicol�, the building features a remarkable cloister built between 1252 and 1256, a rare blend of gothic and Romanesque elements.
Then, lunch with typical products of the local cuisine in a restaurant in the area of the Nature Reserve of Pian di Spagna.
In the afternoon we will reach the western shore of the lake, where we will stop and visit the village of Gravedona with the Romanesque church of Santa Maria del Tiglio (XIth century) or, in alternative, we will visit the Palazzo Manzi at Dongo (Golden room + history of Mussolini�s capture).
Next stop will be Menaggio, on the western shore of the lake. On the promenade of this lovely little village it is possible to admire one of the most interesting items of local modern sculpture: the monument to the weaver woman.
